Face of Vulcan, a composite rendering by Don Stewart of the
DS Art Studio Gallery in Homewood (www.dsart.com),
has been featured on the cover of the Spring 2004 edition of

guide.

Incorporating over eighty separate images into the final drawing,
Stewart’s portrait of Vulcan chronicles the changing face of
Birmingham, from its antebellum origins to its present role as a
vital corporate, cultural and academic center. Historic icons from
the city's industrial past merge with modern symbols of commerce,
architecture, education and entertainment.
After completing undergraduate studies in biology and art from
Birmingham-Southern College, Don Stewart earned his MD from UAB in
1985, followed by an internship in general surgery at the Mayo
Clinic. Since leaving medicine to pursue his artistic interests, Dr.
Stewart has worked as graphic artist, writer and creative consultant
through his company, DS Art. The focus of his work has been the
development of his signature series of themed composite drawings.
