A stag horn calculus is a condition that occurs when a kidney stone grows to occupy the entire interior of the kidney, assuming the shape of a deer’s antler in an x-ray. In this example, the calcification has extended well below the kidneys themselves. Since the advent of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and percutaneous nephrolithiasis, such calculi are becoming an endangered species.
The cryptic symbol that appears on the front of the stag's skull is a "Euro", the phonetic abbreviation of Urology.
